Road Trip Day 114 – Today’s Route
Originally, I had planned on driving to Atlantic City today, but Hurricane Juan is getting close enough to the northeast coast to cause some serious weather issues. Today in Atlantic City, prediction is for heavy rain, wind at 30-40 mph with gusts to 50 and possible coastal flooding.
So instead, I’m heading inland. Not to any particular destination, but just to get away from the coast, First stop this morning will be back in New Castle to visit the First State National Historical Park, which was closed yesterday, then west to Cumberland, Maryland. I’ll then drive to Atlantic City tomorrow, where the weather should be much more reasonable than it will be today.

Road Trip Day 113 – New Castle, Delaware
Went here to visit the First State National Historical Park (part of the National Parks System). Unfortunately, the park is closed on Mondays. However, New Castle, founded in 1640 and the first capital of what eventually became the state of Delaware, is a gem of a town. Towns like this are often referred to as “Living Museums”. Great visit.
Road Trip Day 112 – States So Far
21 States plus D.C. so far. I’ve marked Virginia as done (green), though I’m planning on visiting more of Virginia later in the year (Richmond, Appomattox and Manassas, perhaps more).
In Delaware today, I’ll be here until at least Tuesday morning.
