Today I continue down CA-1 from Fort Bragg, CA to San Francisco. Plan is to have lunch in Bodega Bay and then stay on CA-1 until it joins US-101 just north of the Golden Gate Bridge.

San Francisco will be my first “Destination” city – I’ll be spending four nights at the the Hotel Zephyr, right on Fisherman’s Wharf. I’ve been to SF many times, but always enjoy returning.

Today I continue down US-101 through the California redwoods, including Humboldt Redwoods State Park. However, when I reach Leggett, CA, I’ll leave US-101 and continue south on California highway 1 (also known as the Pacific Coast Highway). Though large parts of CA-1 are closed south of Monterey, CA (Big Sur area), It’s wide open from Leggett to San Francisco (where both US-101 and CA-1 cross the Golden Gate Bridge).

Tonight I’ll stay on the coast, in Fort Bragg, CA, on to San Francisco on Saturday.

Planning on a quiet day in Eureka today. As is typical for this area, it’s in the mid-50’s and cloudy and drizzly. May get a few sun breaks this afternoon and the high might reach 60. As long as it doesn’t rain, it will be a good day for a walking tour of the town. I’ve never spent any time here before beyond just overnight, so it could be interesting.

Continuing south down US-101 to Eureka, CA where I’ll be staying at the historic Eureka Inn. Staying two nights so I can have a bit of a break from driving.
