Today I drive from North Platte, Nebraska to Omaha, Nebraska. Since I did very little freeway driving in Nebraska yesterday, and eastern Nebraska looks pretty much all the same (cornfields), I’m taking the freeway all the way.

I’ve never been to Omaha and know nothing about it, but if it surprises me like most of the other cities I’ve visited so far on this trip, it should be a good time.

Time to move on…

Although I try not to plan this trip any more than a few days out, I suspect that yesterday’s trip to Devil’s Tower in Wyoming will the the farthest west I’ll get this year. Instead, I’m now turning east again.

Today I’ll drive from Rapid City to North Platte, Nebraska. Not sure what’s in North Platte, I picked it only because it gives me a reasonable driving day. Tomorrow, I’ll leave North Platte and head to Omaha, where I’ll spend two nights.

Much like eating bison in the northern plains and pork in Indiana and Iowa, Nebraska is going to be all about the beef. Should be good!

Chislic – cubes of deep fried seasoned meat (usually beef as it is here). In the U.S., it seems to be limited to South Dakota. Likely originated in Eastern Europe, perhaps Russia. The word is probably related to the Turkish/Arabic “shish” as in shish kabob.
