I managed to get to Cocoa Beach (I was in Miami). I’m planning on staying here through Wednesday morning, hoping to feel better by then. Then I’ll decide how far I can drive.

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to cut my trip short. Started feeling lousy yesterday morning, even worse today, it seems that I have the flu, or at least some flu-like symptoms.

So I’ll start for home tomorrow. Not sure how long it will take, I’m planning on fairly short driving days until I get over this crud.

Yes, I’ve written about this place before. I started coming here about thirty years ago, when I was making frequent work trips to the nearby Honeywell facility. Their Italian combo hoagie is still my favorite deli sandwich of all time 😋

Easy drive across Florida. I’ll spend four nights in Madeira Beach.

South along the coast highway (A1A) to Cocoa Beach, where I’ll spend the weekend. I like to visit the Cocoa Beach area mostly for the restaurants:

• Dixie Crossroads (Seafood, in Titusville)
• Sandbar (Great little dive beach bar in Cocoa Beach)
• Rusty’s at the Port (Seafood, at Port Canaveral)
• Florida Seafood Grill (Cocoa Beach)

Founded in 1565, this is the oldest continuously inhabited European-established city in the Continental United States. First European exploration was by the Spaniard Ponce de Leon in 1516. Legend says he was searching for the fountain of youth though modern historians consider this story a myth.
