Three weeks ago I started east on US Highway 2 from downtown Everett, Washington. Today I reached its end in St. Ignace, Michigan
Month: July 2017
Road Trip Day 63 – States So Far
States I’ve visited so far (Michigan is in work).
Michigan will make ten states visited (38 to go!)

Road Trip Day 63 – My Route So Far
My route so far, as of this evening when I reach Traverse City, Michigan.

Road Trip Day 63 – Today’s Route
Nine Weeks into my trip…
Today I’ll drive from Escanaba, Michigan to Traverse City, Michigan. The last city I’ll pass through in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, St. Ignace, is the end of US-Highway 2 (the western leg, anyway, there’s an eastern leg that runs from northern New York State to Northern Maine).
I plan on spending two nights in Traverse City.

Road Trip Day 62 – Food in the Upper Midwest
Some thoughts on food in the upper midwest…
- Though it’s made in Wisconsin and available all over the US, there are lots of bratwurst that are much better than Johnsonville. But if you’re not in Wisconsin, get a Johnsonville (because hey, it’s bratwurst, which of course, goes great with beer)
- Great lakes perch is a nice whitefish.
- Walleye is a wonderful whitefish. I’d put walleye up against cod any day (for say fisn ‘n chips, a fish taco or a fish sandwich).
- Smoked great lakes trout is amazing. I’m gonna be on the lookout for more before I leave Michigan.
Road Trip Day 62 – Today’s Drive
Today I continue east on Highway 2 to Escanaba, Michigan. For the first time this trip I’ll be entering the Eastern time zone.
I’ll reach the end of Highway 2 sometime tomorrow.

Road Trip Day 61 – Back to Duluth
Driving to Duluth, Minnesota today so that I can continue east on US Highway 2 tomorrow.
After walking over 12 miles in Milwaukee yesterday, I’m looking forward to a day of sitting!
