Road Trip Day 63 – Today’s Route

Nine Weeks into my trip…

Today I’ll drive from Escanaba, Michigan to Traverse City, Michigan. The last city I’ll pass through in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, St. Ignace, is the end of US-Highway 2 (the western leg, anyway, there’s an eastern leg that runs from northern New York State to Northern Maine).

I plan on spending two nights in Traverse City.

Road Trip Day 62 – Food in the Upper Midwest

Some thoughts on food in the upper midwest…

  • Though it’s made in Wisconsin and available all over the US, there are lots of bratwurst that are much better than Johnsonville. But if you’re not in Wisconsin, get a Johnsonville (because hey, it’s bratwurst, which of course, goes great with beer)
  • Great lakes perch is a nice whitefish.
  • Walleye is a wonderful whitefish. I’d put walleye up against cod any day (for say fisn ‘n chips, a fish taco or a fish sandwich).
  • Smoked great lakes trout is amazing. I’m gonna be on the lookout for more before I leave Michigan.
